Lime, banana and strawberries

Make a pint of juicy smoothie out of the juice of three limes blended with a small banana and half a large box of strawberries.

In all honesty, too juicy for me and too bitter as well. Hence a mark of 5/10. Maybe next time I will use a larger banana or an additional small one, and less lime ( One might be sufficient)

A bit of an explanation

When you no longer have internet connection at home or when you are on the road, it becomes quite difficult to update your blog... especially when it is about the smoothies you make everyday...:-) And I clearly felt in that trap over the last few months.

I will nevertheless do my best over the next few weeks to update it daily.

Mango, nectarines, orange and banana

Blend the juice of two freshly squeezed oranges with a small banana, a very large mango, and 3 nectarines, to get a prefect smoothie in terms of consistence, and a very nice one in terms of taste (8/10).

I got two large pints out of the above ingredients.

Monday, October 02, 2006

Soya Milk, bananas and maple syrup

This is cvlearly not the most healthy of all smoothies... I was just craving for it yesterday. Blend together 15 cl of soya milk, 3 small bananas and a large spoon of maple syrup, and you get a very syrupy milkshake :-)

Makes 1 pint of drink, and I guess a mark of 7/10.

Saturday, September 23, 2006

Oatly, bananas and strawberries

Today's smoothie was made of 150 ml of Oatly with 2 large and one small bananas, and a good handul of strawberries.

Today, I decided to give another go at a smoothie based on Oatly. Hence I used 100ml of Oatly with half a small pinapple, 3 small bananas and a good handful of strawberries. I got 1.5 pints of a liquid, fresh, and tasty smoothie out of those.

Mark 7.5/10.

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Pinapple, nectarines, banana and lime

Still playing with yesterday ingredients since I do not have any oranges, I decided to blend together half a small pinapple, 3 nectarines, 1 small banana and 3 freshly squeezed lime. The result was a smoothie on the thick side. Nevertheless, a tasty one. Hence a mark of 6.5/10.

The quantities mentioned above helped to make over a pint of smoothie.

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Pinapple, nectarines, lime and lemon

Today first smoothie was made of a small pinapple, 3 nectarines and the juice of 2 lemons and three limes. The smoothie obtained was very tasty, all fruits recognisable but was a bit of a zinger. So I would suggest the same fruits but a smaller quantity of lime and lemons.

I will give a mark of 7/10, as the taste was good even if slightly bitter

We then added a small banana, which helped to get rid of the bitterness, but the taste changed slightly. I will only give 6/10 to this one.

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Oatly and bananas

If like me you come back from the market with a few fruits crushed you might end up having to make a smoothie with the damaged fruits, in my case bananas.

Since I had a brick of oatly open in the fridge, I thought about making a variant to banana milkshake. This turned out to be a very good idea. It was just smooth, sweet and nice on the tongue, while remaining very healthy. Highly recommended.

Mark of 8/10.

We got two pints of smoothie out of 6 bananas and 250ml of Oatly drink.

Saturday, September 16, 2006

Repeat: Melon, banana, mint and soya milk

Having slightly too many honeydew melon and bananas and some left over of soya mlik, I thought I will give it another go, while changing slightly the quantities of each.

Hence I made two pints of smoothie, using 1 melon, 2.5 bananas, 8 mints leaves, and approximately 10cl of soya milk. The mint leaves are cut in small pieces then added to the other ingredients before blending all of them together.

I like the smoothie, but thought, the taste of bananas was far more pronounced than yesterday. I prefer yesterday in terms of balance of flavours. The second judge today thought this was a bit sweet. Hence the mark for today is only 6 out of 10.

Saturday, August 26, 2006

Melon, banana, mint and soya milk

I tried this smoothie again and I really like it. It is simple and very refreshing. Not to say fully of season.

Made a pint, with half a (green) melon, a banana, some mint and some soya milk.

Mark of 8/10

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Perfect summer smoothie

Minty summer (?) smoothie

I only wrote the (?) based on the rainy weather we have had to cope here in London over the last few days, hence the fact I am wondering whether we could still consider being in summer.

Today, I made a pint ( 660ml) of the following smoothie: half a melon, a small banana, 3 fresh mint leaves, and a bit of soya milk.

I was pleasantlys urprised with the result which was very light and refreshing. Highly recommended. Hence a mark of 8 out of 10.

Sunday, August 20, 2006

Minty taste

Today's smoothie was made of a half of melon, a banana, 2 sweet tamarind, a freshly squeeze pink grapefruit and 3 leaves of mint.

It was nice and refreshing but had a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Hence, a mark of only 5 out of ten. These quantities made just a pint.

Simple return smoothie

Back home after a few weeks away, I had the pleasure to make my own smoothie this morning, and I decided to make a simple one.

Half a pinapple, 2 small mangoes and a freshly squeezed pink grapefruit was all I needed to make a pint of a half of a smooth and aromatic drink. Mark 7 out of 10.

Such a pleasure to be back home!!! :-)

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

Mango bliss with a twist

Made of 2 freshly squeezed oranges, 1 lime and 4 small mangoes.

The lime adds a bit of a bitter flavour at the taste finish. I might prefer the smoothi without the lime.

Makes 2 pints. And a mark of 7or 8/10

Tuesday, July 11, 2006

A tasty regular - Pinapple, mango and strawberries

Made of half a pinapple, 2 small mangoes and 300g strawberries.

A few tips:
- Easier to start the blender with the mangoes and strawberries.
- To get a cold/ refreshing smoothie, do not use ice but put your fruits in the fridge before making the smoothie. This way no dilution, just pure taste or did I mean pure bliss :-)

This makes 2 pints of smoothie. And Today's mark 9 or 10/10.

Monday, July 10, 2006

Coconut Milk, Mangoes, Figs

This smoothie, or dare I say thick milkshake based on its consistence was made of half a can of coconut milk, 2 small mangoes, 2 bananas and 6/7 fresh figs.

If we exclude the strange consistence, the taste was not that bad. I have to start recognising though that I am not a fan of coconut milk based smoothie, purely based on taste. To each their own taste.

Quantity made with above ingredients: 1.5 pints. Mark 5 out of 10.

Sunday, July 09, 2006

Melon, Mango and Figs

Half a melon, a large Mango and 7 figs creates a very nice and very sweet smoothie ( we could almost say coulis, based on the consistence and sweetness).

Highly recommended.

This quantity makes over a pint, and a mark of 9 or 10/10

Melon, Pinapple and Strawberries

Made of a whole melon, half a large pinapple and 400g of strawberries.

Very nice :-)

Makes 2.5 pints. Mark 7/10

A typical fruit bowl

The people among you who were lucky enough to see my main fruit bowl (I can use two of them) were very impressed by it. Hence I thought I would post a photo :-)

Pinapple and Strawberries

Made of half a pinapple, 400g of strawberries, and two freshly squeezed oranges.

Nice and refreshing taste (if you had the pinapple in the fridge :-)).

Makes 2 pints.

And a mark of 9/10.

I did also for the first time wonder about the price of making such a smoothie, and the answer is 25p for the pinapple, 25 p for the oranges and 50p for the strawberries. Hence 50p/pint. Cheap and so tasty!!!

Thursday, July 06, 2006

Melon, Pinapple and Figs

Made of a whole melon, half a pinapple and 6 fresh figs.

Just Fab!!! you first taste the melon, you finish with the figs, and the better connoisseurs among you, will recognise the pinapple taste in the middle. A very nice 3 taste layers smoothie.

This should give you 2 pints.

And a mark of 8 or 9 out of 10.

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

Mango & strawberries

Made of 3 freshly squeezed oranges, 1 banana, 2 large mangoes and 15 strawberries.

This gave me 2 pints of amazing yet simple and absolutely gorgeous smoothie!! :-)

Tuesday, July 04, 2006

Banana, Kiwi, orange

Well I am not sure I would recommend to make this smoothie: 2 bananas, 3 kiwis and 3 freshly squeezed orange juice. ( it make a good pint). The taste was strange and slightly bitter.

May be a 2/10 mark. Is it obvious I did not like it that much? :-)

Monday, July 03, 2006

Melon, Mango, Strawberries

Made of a small melon, a large Mango and 10-14 strawberries.

Very nice!!

Sunday, July 02, 2006

Melon, Mango, Lychees and Kiwi

Made of a small melon, a large mango, a kiwi and 10 lychees.

The jury loved this so much today that I was told I should create my own smoothie business and sold them in bottles like the "innocenti" ones. I feel flattered :-)

Saturday, July 01, 2006

Pinapple, Nectarines and Lychees

Made of half a pinapple, 4 nectarines and 15 lychees.

Thursday, June 29, 2006

Nice texture, and both the mango and the nectarines were identifiables.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Exotic Parfait

Made of a whole melon, a small pinapple, a large mango and three passion fruits.

Just perfect in terms of texture and taste ( sweet, fresh and smooth on the tongue)

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

Exotic Supreme

Made of a small pinapple, a banana, 3 kiwis, 5 passion fruits and the juice of a freshly squeezed lime and lemon.

I like it even though the taste of the lemon was slightly too strong. It might be even better with the juice of an orange instead of a lemon.

Monday, June 19, 2006

Fruit content: Banana

Bananas are high in potassium and easily digested ( hence the sailors' saying that they go up your body as quickly as they went down :-))

Fruit content info: Orange

Oranges are rich in minerals and vitamins including A, C and the B-Complex and thus help to cleanse and tone the gastrointestinal tract.

Besides, although orange juice is acidic in nature, it alkalises the bloodstream, tones blood vessels and prevents brain fatigue. It is in fact highly recommended by many nutritionists as an energy aid because of the natural sugar content.

Fruit contents Info: Mango

Mango is extremely high in vitamins A, C, magnesium, calcium and potassium, rich in beta-carotene -an antioxidant which boosts defences and prevents free radical damage, which in itself reduces the risk of certain cancers.

Fruit contents Info: Apple

Apples are are a good source of vitamin C (an antioxidant which helps to maintain the immune system), and rich in iron and high mineral content ( which makes apple juice especially useful to hair, skin and nails and stimulates muscles and nerves)

Summery and Tasty

Half a melon, 1 banana and 8 passion fruits.

Very tasty, smooth, fresh, sweet and full to the tongue :-) What else could you ask for?? :-)

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Juicy and tasty

2 freshly squeeze orange juice, 1 banana and 4 passion fruits.

This tasted extremely good, especially as the flavour of all the fruits was noticeable. A definite recommendation, however more a juice than a smoothie. Maybe an extra banana (not sure)would have made of this a smoothie :-)

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Fresh and Sweet

Half a melon, 1 banana, 4 passion fruits

This made a very fresh and sweet smoothie, even though once again it was almost impossible to taste the passion fruits

Monday, June 12, 2006

Smooth Parfait

Half a melon, 1 kiwi, 4 passion fruits and a banana.

Nice, even though, it was difficult to taste the passion fruits.

Saturday, June 10, 2006

Thick and Strange (Part 2)

I did the same smoothie again and even though the flavour slightly improved, I cannot say I am convinced by the combination. It does definitely have a strange taste!!!

Friday, June 09, 2006

Thick and Strange

A banana, 2 papayas, 2 freshly squeeze oranges and 3 passion fruits.

As mentioned above this smoothie had a strange taste, i.e. slightly unidentifiable. and very difficult to recognise the taste of any of the fruits used to make it. I might have a go at varying the proportion tomorrow to see whether it does change the taste.

Tuesday, May 30, 2006

Smooth and refreshing

Ingredients: a melon, a large papaya (or 2 medium ones), a kiwi and a few strawberries.

First blend the melon. Then add the other ingredients and blend again.

It gives you a very refreshing smoothie which melts on the tongue... A perfect sensation. A 10/10!!! The jury today was the girlfriend of one of my flatmates, who sais she might now get convinced about smoothie!!! :-)

Monday, May 29, 2006

Fresh and Crispy

It is made of 2 pomogranates, half a pinapple, 15 cl of coconut milk and 2 passion fruits.

First blend the pomogranates, it helps to blend the seeds as much as you can then add the rest and blend again. You have to blend long enough and at a power at each the passion fruit seeds are crushed in tiny parts.

The taste: Light and refreshing while slightly crispy due to the pomogranates and passion fruits seeds/stones.

The mark: 9/10

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

This morning smoothie was a great one made of one freshly squeeze orange and one freshly squeeze pink grapefruit, half a pomogranate (PO), 2 mangoes (MA), a kiwi (KI)and a banana.

However, I need a solution to get rid of the pomogranate seeds. Any suggestions?

The only one I can think of is to blend it first and get rid of the seeds then

Red Melon Mango Date

Made of a melon, 6-10 strawberries, 3-6 dates, and mango

Exceptionnaly Exotic again

ok today's plot smoothie is very similar to yesterday. Hence the other half a can of Coconut milk, the other half a huge papaya, the other half a pinapple, two mangoes and 7 dates.

I prefer this one to yesterday's one, but I have to mention that the reason I am not such a fan of these two seems related more to the coconut milk, and the absence of banana to reduce the coconut taste, than the presence or not of sweet tamarind.

I would love to make a smoothie with Feijoas, also known in America as the pinapple guavas, and a flavour apparently reminiscent of strawberries and pineapple. I have personally never eaten this fruit

Sunday, May 07, 2006

Exceptionally Exotic

Today's smoothie was made of over half a can of Coconut milk, half a huge papaya ( and I do mean huge 9/10 inches long), half a pinapple, two mangoes and three sweet tamarind.

I personally did not like it that much. Too much coconut and a bit of a smell which reminded me of someone's comment about the pungent sweet tamarind smell. But the other two women who had some loved it, and did even wonder what I had put in it.

Royal exotic smoothie

A very complete exotic smoothie made of a banana, an orange, yellow and pink grapefruits, 2 kiwis, some pineapple, a mango and a papaya (You can tell I live East London, ahence cheap and easy access to loads of exotic markets and fresh fruits :-))

A citrus exotic classic

Freshly squeeze yellow and pink grapefruits, a banana, a papaya, half a pineapple, 6-8 strawberries.

Very nice!!

I have started to learn that to make a good smoothie you need to have some juice/liquid to start with. It can be made on the spot from fresh fruits, e.g. apple, carrot, ginger, oranges, grapefruits, or come from processed fruit juices ( I have never done so as not that healthy) or just any type of milk ( coconut, soya, oats).

Friday, March 17, 2006

A carrot, apple, celery and ginger home made juice this morning using the centrifugeuse. A good and healthy alternative to a smoothie.

Ginger has a very strong taste so please even though you might be after the aphrodisiac effects of ginger, try not to put too much of it. Its bitter taste could seriously damage the taste of the juice, by destroying the taste of the other fruits ;-)

Monday, March 13, 2006

The classic exoctic smoothie

A couple of freshly squueeze oranges, a banana, a mango, a papaya, 1/3 of a pineapple and 6-8 strawberries.

Not to be missed as so easy to prepare!!!
